The full and proper name of the country is The Oriental Republic of Uruguay. It is located in the southern part of South America with Argentina, Brazil and the South Atlantic Ocean, bordering the country. The city of Montevideo is its capital as well as a major port. The second largest city of Uruguay is called Salto.
Though Montevideo is a modern city, you could see some ancient colonial style buildings here. These styles are representative of the late 18th and 19th centuries.

Fish, cheese, eggs and bread along with Italian pasta and pizza are also eaten with relish in Uruguay. Dulce de Leche, is a kind of caramel sauce, which is used in desserts including flans. Lemon pie is another Uruguay favorite.
Livestock and allied industries have been traditional contributors to Uruguay economy. Agricultural products include rice, wheat, corn and barley. Cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and horses are raised. The fishing industry caters to mainly export needs. Major industries in Uruguay are petroleum products, chemicals, transport equipment, electrical machinery, leather, wool, textiles, shoes, food processing and beverages.
