Chile
Chile is located in South America. This republic has South Pacific Ocean, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina bordering it. Santiago is the capital and the largest city in Chile. Other cities include Concepcion, Vina del Mar and Valparaiso.
The terrain consists of low coastal mountains and valleys. The longest river of Chile is The Loa.
Chile essentially has four main regions – the northern region is the desert, central region is coastal with mountains, the southern region is full of rivers, lakes and volcanoes, and the Patagonia region is made up of glaciers and Antarctica. The climate in Chile thus, varies according to the regions – from dry in north to cooler in south.
The world famous park Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is in Chile. This park is famous for the massive figures carved out of volcanic rocks. These figures or moais (giant statues) on Easter Island were built between the tenth and sixteenth centuries. They are on the World Heritage list.

Although Spanish is the official language, some colloquial American languages are also used. They are Mapundungun (Mapuche) and Rapa Nui (Easter Island).
Chile is one of world’s largest producers of copper. Thus mining is a majaor industry in Chile. Other industries include nitrates, oil and gas, iron and steel, timber and wood products, cement, transport equipment, food processing and wine.
The agricultural produces also contribute healthily towards the country’s economy. These include wheat, maize, oats, potatoes, beans, sugar beet, tomatoes and grapes. Fishing is a very important industry providing anchovies, herring, mackerel and sardines. Tourism is considered a growing industry.
A typical Chilean cuisine would include bread, beans and potatoes. Fish and shellfish along with meat, such as poultry and beef, is consumed through out Chile.
A national dish is curanto, a stew that combines seafood, meat and vegetables.
