Bermuda

The economy of Bermuda depends largely on the service sector. Hamilton is its current capital. While there are no rivers or lakes in Bermuda, the islands are inter-connected through causeways and bridges. Sixty-one percent of the population is of black descent and thirty-nine percent of the population is of white descent.

The population is a mixture of blacks and whites – blacks being slightly more in number. English and Portuguese are the two languages in use in Bermuda. Majority of the people are Christians.

The flavor of Bermudian cuisine is influenced by the cultures of its ethnic groups, such as British, West Indian and Portuguese. A large variety of fish and vegetables form part of the daily diet in Bermuda. Tropical fruits like bananas, citrus fruits, guavas, loquats, papayas, and Surinam cherries are grown and consumed. Black Seal Rum with ginger beer is a popular local drink.

Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts is a world famous annual festival, that was founded thirty years ago. Over and above local performers, the Festival welcomes musicians, dancers, and actors from many parts of the world.
