The Czech Republic is situated in Central Europe and consists of Bohemia, Moravia and part of Silesia. Bordering countries are Austria, Germany, Poland and the Slovak Republic. Prague is the Czech Republic's capital city.

While some 35% of people are Roman Catholics, some are Hussites. These are followers of the religious reformer Jan Hus, who was burnt at the stake in 1415.
After the fall of communism, Czechoslovakia turned to privatization of state-run business and became successful. Today, industrial sector contributes more than the agro sector to the economy of the country. Industries include metallurgy, machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, glass, food processing and beverages. The main agricultural produce is wheat, sugar beet, potatoes, fruit and hops. The tourism sector is showing a healthy growth in Czechoslovakia.
Main cuisine in the Czech Republic would consist of beef or pork, and sometimes fish, served with potatoes or rice or dumplings. Sauerkraut is used in recipes including soup. Other soups are potato soup and liver dumpling soup. Dumplings are also served sweet and they are very popular. Desserts include strudel and pancakes. Gingerbread and pastries are consumed as favorites. The Czech Republic is well known for Pilsner beer and Budweiser Budvar.
The land of the country is varied - it has plateau, highlands and lowlands. The highest mountains are the Krkonose (Giant Mountains), followed by the Hruby Jesenik (Ash Montains), the Sumava mountain range and the Beskydy Mountains. Rivers include the Elbe, Morava, Oder and Vltava.
The climate of the Czech Republic is comfortable. It has warm summers and not very harsh winters. Nearly a third of the country is full of forests. Coniferous firs and spruce are aplenty and so are trees like beech, birch and oak.
