Bulgaria
The Republic of Bulgaria situated in the southern part of Eastern Europe. It has Turkey, Greece, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Romania and the Black Sea bordering it. Bulgaria joined the EU membership only in January 2006.
The service sector is the main financial contributor to Bulgaria’s economy. Tourism is the prime sector which is backed adequately by the flourishing tourist traffic in the Black Sea resorts. Spa tourism has also generated a world-wide interest, donating good money to Bulgaria’s kitty. The industrial sector is the second contributor to Bulgaria’s economy. Industries include refined petroleum, nuclear fuel, electricity, gas, metals, machinery and equipment, chemical products, food and beverages (including red and white wine). The agricultural sector accounts for less than 10% to the national economy. The products are fruit, vegetables, wheat, barley, sugar beet, sunflowers and tobacco. Roses, which provide attar of roses used in perfume, are also grown.
Bulgarian is the official language and the main religion in Bulgaria is Bulgarian Orthodox. Some people are Muslims in Bulgaria.
Balkan countries like Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and northern Turkey have influenced the cuisine of Bulgaria. A typical Bulgarian menu would include bread, pickled or stuffed vegetables, salads, soups, stews, casseroles, kebabs, spicy sausages and cheese dishes. Pork, lamb, beef, chicken, fish are usually served with staples such as rice and wheat. Traditional alcoholic drinks are "rakiya" (a fruit brandy, often plum), wine and "boza" (a type of beer made with grain, usually millet).
