Earlier known as Siam, the Kingdom of Thailand, is situated in South East Asia, bordering with Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. Thailand is one of the most important world producers of tungsten and tin. Other resources include rubber, timber and natural gas. Thai industries are cement, light manufacturing, computers and electronics, furniture, plastics, textiles, clothes, tobacco, food processing and beverages. Tourism is an important contributor for the growth of the national economy.

Though Thai is the official language, English is used for all business purposes. Majority of the people are Buddhist.

Coriander, turmeric, mint, ginger, chilly pepper, garlic and coconut milk are the main ingredients of Thai cuisine, which is considered to be quite spicy. Seafood and shredded meat, often chicken, is eaten with rice or noodles. Favorite sauces are fish sauce and satay. A variety of tropical fruits including the durian, jack fruit, bananas and mangoes are available in this country. Fruit carving is an art form and is practiced for special occasions.
