Kyrgyzstan
The Kyrgyz Republic is a Central Asian country with Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and China bordering it. Bishkek is the capital city. Osh is Kyrgyzstan's second largest city. The terrain is mainly mountainous with some valleys. The country is famous for its natural beauty and unspoiled environment. With the prominence of Pamir-Alai and Tien Shan mountain ranges, the country has many glaciers, lakes, rivers and forests.
Soon after the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, Kyrgyzstan became independent.

Agriculture and the service sector dominate the economy, with industry following closely. Agricultural produce includes potatoes, vegetables, grapes, fruits, berries and tobacco. Kyrgyzstan is particularly famous for walnuts. Cotton is grown and silk is produced. Mining is a significant industry of the country. As part of natural resources, Kyrgyzstan has deposits of coal, gold and metals. Other industries include small machinery, cement, electric motors, refrigerators, sawn logs, furniture, shoes, textiles and food processing. Development of eco-tourism is on the top of the agenda in the coming years.
Kyrgyz and Russian are both official languages of the country and majority of the people are Muslim and about twenty percent of the population are Russian Orthodox.
Kyrgyzstan cuisine includes breads, soups and stews. Noodles and meat dumplings are popular and smoked horsemeat sausage is often served. Pilav or "plov" is a staple dish of rice, mutton and turnips or carrots. Meat is traditionally the most important component of Kyrgyzstani cuisine. It is boiled, stewed and grilled; shashlik is mutton cooked over a grill on skewers, which has gained world-wide popularity. Fermented milk and bozo, made from fermented grain, are traditional drinks.
