Moving With Kids
Moving is a stressful
time for everyone, but it can be especially
emotional for kids. If you’re moving with
kids, there are some tips and advice you
should keep in mind. There are several
things you can do to make your kids’ move
a painless process.
The most important
piece to make moving with kids a successful
experience is open communication. Before you
even start planning your move, you should
sit down with your children and tell them
about the move. Let them express their
concerns and emotions. You should also make
them feel included in the move. This way,
they will feel that they have an important
part in the move. Try and allay any concerns
or fears they may have.
As you plan your
relocation,
you should keep your children in mind. Your
children will most likely feel insecure
about starting at a new school and making
new friends. If you can, try and plan your
move around your children’s’ school
schedule in order for them to get acclimated
to their new home and surroundings, giving
them enough time to start making new
friends.
When you start packing
your home, you should try to include your
kids in the packing process. Let them have a
say in what they get to keep and give away.
Having them help, being inclusive, and
keeping communication open will turn what
could be an emotional process into a
positive experience.
